ABOUT LOCAL CARE PROVIDER - LUTON BOROUGH COUNCILS SHARED LIVES SCHEME

Luton Borough Council’s Shared Lives Scheme is a flexible service helping people with a learning disability that need care or support to live independently and also want to live in a ‘family’ environment.

Shared Lives Carers are individuals, couples and families who provide care in their own home. Following an assessment, a Shared Lives Carer and someone who needs support are matched by the scheme. The individual becomes a regular daytime or overnight visitor to the Shared Lives Carer's household through the provision of respite care support or the individual may move into the Shared Lives Carer’s home as a longer term placement.

Shared Lives support can help people make the step to living on their own. Shared Lives Carers give practical and emotional support, from help with personal care and preparing meals to helping people take part in community activities, build relationships and develop independent living skills.

Luton Borough Council’s Shared Lives Scheme is registered for the regulated activity of personal care with CQC. Shared Lives Carers share their family and community life with someone who needs support with care taking place within the Carer's own home. People accessing the service are referred via the Council’s Community Learning Disability Team. All carer’s undertake a rigorous recruitment and training program and are approved by an Independent panel.
